MA3: All-Digital AM – Things to Know

Available on demand
(Original air date: January 28, 2021)

With the release of the Report and Order by the FCC on October 27, 2020, authorizing stations to use MA3 all-digital AM on their stations, several common questions – and more than a few misunderstandings – have arisen. In this session, we’ll discuss the research done to arrive at this point, the development history of HD Radio on AM and what the actual requirements will be going forward. We’ll also look at some of the misunderstandings frequently encountered (for example, analog is going away… no, whether or not a station decides to run MA3 is a voluntary choice on the part of the station). Your presenter was involved in the first all-digital field tests done by the NAB and has installed a couple dozen AM HD Radio systems, as well as supporting many others, so there will be first-hand experience provided in the course of this session.
