What is an online course?

An online course is an education course that is delivered via the Internet. For our purposes, each course is set up like a textbook. For instance, these courses are broken down into chapters, each addressing a specific topic. You can start at the beginning and follow the chapters in order, or skip around. It's all up to you. There are quizzes at the end of most chapters, as well as a final exam.

How long does it take to complete an online course?

It is different for each student. One of the benefits to an online course is that each person can work through the course at his/her own speed. You have six months to access to the purchased SBE course.

Are there assignments to be turned in to an online instructor?

No. However, there are quizzes and final exams for each course.

Do I have to complete the course in one setting, or can I quit and come back at a later time?

You can access the course multiple times in order to complete the course; although your access to  the course is limited to six months.

Am I limited to accessing the course on only one computer?

Because SBE University is Internet-based, you can access the course from any computer as long as you have the link, id and passcode.

I am having trouble logging in for the first time.

In your confirmation email, there will be a link to access SBE University, your unique id and login code. Once you have logged in, you will see the name(s) of the course(s) you purchased. To open a course, click once on the name of the course. You will see the course name come up a second time below the first. Click on the second course name, and the chapters will be displayed.

Is there an instructor, or is it more like a “do-it-yourself” course?

These courses are designed to be self-study courses. You work through the materials on your own when it is convenient for you.

What do I need to log in to a course?

After registering on the SBE website, you will receive an email confirmation with everything you need to access the course, which will include:

  • Your ID
  • Your Passcode
  • Course Link

Will these online courses help me become certified?

Yes, these courses will help prepare you to become certified, but they should not be the only tool you use to prepare for a certification exam. Visit the SBE Certification section of our website for more information on getting certified.

Can I use SBE University Courses toward my SBE recertification?
