Continuing The Fundamentals of IP Networking Series, Wayne Pecena, CPBE, 8-VSB, AMD, DRB, CBNE, presents Part 3 focusing on understanding IP routing and applying concepts in practical internetnetworking by exploring the foundation and protocols of Layer 3 of the OSI model. Specific topics to be covered include understanding the role of routed protocols, IP addressing (subnetting), IP routing protocol section, and the role of layer three protocols such as ICMP and ARP.

Specific topics to be addressed in the series include the IEEE & IETF standards, the OSI & TCP reference models, Ethernet switching & VLAN creation, IP routing protocols and implementation, implementing a segmented IP network focused upon performance & security in the broadcast technical plant and understanding network security. Where possible, practical implementation examples will focus on the broadcast IP network environment.
Instructing and the creator of the Fundamentals of IP Networking Series is Wayne Pecena, CPBE, 8-VSB, AMD, DRB, CBNE. Wayne is the assistant director fo educational broadcast services in the Office of Information Technology at Texas A&M University. In this position, he serves as the director of engineering of TTVN: The Enterprise Videoconference and Data Network serving the Texas A&M University System and Public Broadcast stations KAMU-TV and KAMU-FM serving the Brazos Valley area. He has more than 35 years of broadcast telecommuncations experience and holds BS and MS degrees from Texas A&M University. He is a licensed private pilot and holds Amateur Radio Operator License N1WP.
