Metadata 101: Now Playing and More
Shane Toven, CPBE, DRB, CBNE, Director of Technology, Frandsen Media
As content consumption through streaming apps becomes the norm and radios in vehicles become more advanced, listeners have come to expect features like title and artist info, as well as artwork in some cases. It’s important to provide the rich metadata experience that your listeners have come to expect, whether they listen via streaming, HD Radio, or analog FM. This session covers the basics of metadata: What it is, what do I do with it, and how to get it where it needs to go. It also touches on some more “creative” uses of metadata beyond simple title and artist information.

Preparing for a Connected Facility – IT Security in a Broadcast Plant
Jeff Welton, CBRE, Nautel
These days, the trend is toward virtualization, containerization and cloud based everything. What does that mean – and more importantly, what are the steps we need to take in order to ensure that we’re presenting as little visible footprint as possible, while still enabling our teams to get the job done?

FCC Compliance for your Broadcast Facility
John George, Broadtech Services, Inc.
The presentation will focus on John’s years of experience as a broadcast engineer and ABIP Inspector. He will review the easy mistakes made in FCC filings and required record keeping for the broadcast facility, including EAS, tower lighting and the documents one should have their studio and transmitter sites.

NextGen Broadcasting
Fred Baumgartner, “Retired” Broadcast Engineer
Will NextGen Broadcasting be more about better broadcasting or moving to non-broadcast revenue streams? This discussion will give a brief survey of datacasting, encryption and other revenue to offset the costs of transmitters and towers. Over The Air broadcasting doesn’t pay retransmission fees. Some of the reasons for maintaining big-tower big-power transmission has to do with services that have seemingly little to do with broadcasting, like Broadcast Positioning System and Emergency Mass Communications.

An additional radio speaker will be announced.

Ennes Workshop attendees receive One Credit Category G by attending the entire workshop (4 sessions).
