SBE Strategic Planning Conference: June 9, 2018 in Indianapolis
May 16 , 2018
The SBE will conduct a strategic planning conference on Saturday, June 9 at the Hilton Hotel & Suites, 120 West Market Street in downtown Indianapolis, IN. The purpose of the conference is to assess how changes to the media industry affect our members and future members and determine ways for the SBE to adapt to meet the needs of members today and in the future.
The chair, or a designee, of each SBE chapter is invited to participate. We encourage chapters to consider funding the travel and hotel cost from chapter funds for their representative. Members of the national SBE Board of Directors and all SBE national staff will also be participating. The conference will be facilitated by Rodney Vandeveer. As the instructor for the annual SBE Leadership Development Course, Vandeveer is familiar with the technical broadcast community. He owns VanTECH Training and is a retired professor of Organizational Leadership and Supervision at Purdue University.
Though there is no registration fee, chapter participants are asked to register online so the SBE can plan for seating and meals. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided to participants, as well as a welcome reception on Friday evening, June 8. The conference will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
Discounted guest rooms ($119 plus tax) at the Hilton Hotel are available only through May 17. Make your reservation directly with the hotel by calling
800-315-1906 or use the hotel's online reservation system. Plan to arrive Friday and depart Sunday.
Technology and economic changes within the media industry have had a pronounced effect on the expectations of those who work on the technical side of broadcasting. The skill sets, educational background and experience expected by employers have expanded from those of the traditional RF broadcast engineer to one that includes information technology systems, operations and non-traditional delivery systems.
We will define who are members are today who they will likely be in the years ahead. Participants will develop recommendations for the national Board of Directors regarding specific actions the SBE needs to in recruitment strategies, education, certification and chapter operations.
