Earlier this year, the FCC and FEMA announced that there will be a nationwide tests of the EAS and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on October 4, 2023. If conditions on that date require the rescheduling of the tests, they will be conducted on October 11, 2023. Read about the announcement in SBE News and Headlines.
To help stations prepare, Larry Wilkins, CPBE, AMD, CBNT, chair of the Alabama State Emergency Communications Committee and director of the Alabama Broadcasters Association Engineer Services led a webinar on the upcoming test, which includes information on what stations can expect, how they can prepare, and the reports that must be filed. Larry is joined by John George, chair of the South Carolina State Emergency Communications Committee and ABIP inspector for South Carolina and Georgia. Representatives from Digital Alert Systems, Gorman-Redlich and Sage Alerting Systems are also on the webinar. The webinar is presented by the ABA Engineering Academy.
