Indoor Production Lighting for Broadcast Engineers – Part 4

The role of the broadcast engineer is changing in broadcast productions and a growing expectation of the engineer is to provide the lighting direction and maintenance. This four-part course is designed to elevate the engineer’s knowledge of lighting and how to execute effective lighting in indoor broadcast spaces.

Part 4 concludes the series by bringing all of the pieces of the series together.  Lighting color samples will also be discussed.

 

Instructors

Cindy CavellCindy Cavell, Cavell-Mertz Spectrum Division of Capitol Airspace Group

Cindy Hutter Cavell currently is the director of the Cavell-Mertz Spectrum Division of Capitol Airspace Group.

Her career includes spending 15 years at NBC and ABC News, traveling with Presidential press pools throughout the world, and handling three Olympics for ABC television, and managing remotes internationally.

Cindy has been a major market TV station chief engineer for Hearst, Gannett and Fox. She has also been general manager of the Fox Sports Net Tech Center in Houston, and was the director of engineering for the nationwide 2 GHz Relocation Project at Sprint/Nextel. She has also acted as the engineering project lead for the FCC’s TV band repack Fund Administrator.

Cindy has been celebrated with many industry awards and as the winner of the 2019 NAB Television Engineering Achievement Award, being the first woman to receive this honor. She has also won three Emmy Awards, the 2015 TV-News-Check Women in Technology Leadership Award, and the 2007 SBE-AWRT Outstanding Female Engineer award.

C. Webster MarshC. Webster Marsh, Owner, Penumbra Controls

C. Webster Marsh is the owner of Penumbra Controls, where he provides lighting and lighting controls design, specification guidance, and education. He brings over 20 years of applied experience with lighting and lighting controls.

Webster is a Certified Lighting Controls Practitioner (CLCP), Lighting Controls Association contributor, instructor for the Southern California Edison Energy Education Centers, member of the Lighting Agora, member of the IESNA, and past speaker for Lightfair, IES Annual Conference, LEDucation, and NYControlled. He is also a contributor to the Lighting Controls Association’s educational resources and co-hosts the Lighting Controls Podcast.

Javid Butler, Senior Engineer, HDR ConsultingJavid Butler

Javid Butler has more than 30 years of experience designing large-scale lighting projects in Las Vegas and is a DMX512 expert.
