Overview
Online broadcasters need to have a wide array of knowledge to keep their operations running smoothly and have tools at their disposal for when situation requires help. Linux is an operating system that is foundational to networking and the internet as it exists today. It’s widespread use in the architecture of online broadcasting systems provides advantages to users who can navigate and operate it efficiently. This presentation provides an introduction to Linux, some history of its development and adoption along with some basic lessons on how to use it, tools that are useful for online broadcasters, and where to find help as you increase your Linux proficiency.

Dean Mitchell has spent the last 14 years working in the world of online streaming, leading development teams in building audio/video management and delivery platforms that enable clients to realize their content delivery goals. Along with developing innovative broadcasting systems for small to enterprise clients, he actively contributes to working groups by helping to develop standards that provide guidance to online broadcasters and content creators. When not surfing the net he enjoys actually surfing the sunny California coast and hiking with his dogs.
